Solihull Moors suffer fifth straight defeat

Solihull Moors remain bottom of the National League after suffering a fifth consecutive defeat in a nightmare start to the new season.

The Moors were beaten 3-1 by AFC Fylde at the Autotech Stadium on Monday afternoon, leaving Chris Millington's side without a single point from their opening five league matches.

It is the club's worst possible start, with Solihull now the only team in the division yet to pick up a point.

The defeat also means the Moors have conceded 16 goals in their first five league games, scoring just four.

Fylde took control before half-time after Harvey Broad opened the scoring in the 34th minute.

Jack Morris then doubled the visitors' advantage shortly before the break, leaving Solihull facing another uphill battle.

The Moors did respond after half-time when Jacob Wakeling headed home in the 51st minute, giving the home side hope of a comeback.

But that hope lasted less than 10 minutes.

Luca Thomas restored Fylde's two-goal advantage in the 60th minute to make it 3-1.

Solihull pushed for another goal late on, with Joe Sbarra hitting the crossbar before Jevon Mills saw another effort cleared off the line.

But the Moors could not find a way back into the game.

A miserable start

The latest defeat follows losses against Harrogate Town, Boston United, Southend United and Scunthorpe United.

The opening-day 5-2 defeat at Harrogate was followed by a 2-0 home loss to Boston.

Southend then won 3-1 at Damson Park before Scunthorpe recorded the same scoreline against Solihull on Friday.

Now Fylde have inflicted another 3-1 defeat.

The Moors are therefore bottom of the table with zero points and a -12 goal difference after five matches.

What happens next?

There is little time for Millington's team to dwell on the latest defeat.

Solihull's next league game is away at Gateshead on Saturday, September 5, with a 3pm kick-off.

They then return home for a National League Cup fixture against Leeds United Under-21s on Tuesday, September 8.

The Moors will be desperate for a result before their league campaign slips further away from them.

For now, however, the picture could hardly be worse.

Five games, five defeats and no points.

Solihull Moors have a huge job on their hands to turn their season around.
